Sometimes a Windows Search (from the taskbar) can find your file Fast, and that is what you should try first.

Other times, a Windows Search does not find it at all. And that is where an old-fashioned DOS command can help.

If your Windows Search failed, tell us where to look and what to find. We’ll make a one-line DOS command you can paste into the Windows Command Prompt to find your file.

Your files stay private. This page cannot see, scan, or upload your files. It only prepares text for you to run yourself.

Try this first

Start with Windows Search

It is usually the fastest option when Windows has already indexed your file.

  1. 1 Click inside “Search” on the Windows taskbar:
  2. 2 Type the file name or part of its name.
  3. 3 If it does not appear, continue with Quick Find below.

Still can’t find it?

Create a thorough command that searches every folder beneath the location you choose.

1

Choose where to search

Start broad if you’re not sure.

2

What “File Name” are you looking for?

A full name or a pattern both work.

About Quick Find

Quick Find creates a Windows Command Prompt search command from the drive, folder, and file pattern you enter. It is designed as a simple fallback when Windows Search cannot locate a file.

The app prepares text only. It cannot inspect your computer, run the command, or access your files.

Privacy

Quick Find does not require an account and does not use analytics, advertising, cookies, or tracking. The drive, folder, and file pattern you enter remain in this browser and are not transmitted to SCS Code.

The hosting provider may maintain standard technical server logs. If you use Contact Us, the name, email address, app name, and message you submit are emailed to SCS Code so your message can be answered.
